Batu Caves

I was all excited when my friends told me they're going to Batu Caves last Sunday because I've never been there; plus i got to test my new Olympus mju840-sweet....

This statue is huge! And it is wrapped in pure gold sheets! Precious!

Climbing the steps, can't remember how many tho. It wasn't that bad. I could do three rounds if I tried real hard.

You could understand the enthusiasm of those exercise freaks once they got up there, hence this sign. It's a place of worship after all.

At the entrance, looking at the other set of stairs, minor that one is.

Darling leave the light on for me....

Greetings from within...

The temple within.

Look up!

The monks feed them old coconuts as snacks. Heavy on the heart, i know. Maybe that's how they control the population.

Enjoying his snack.

Or is it a her?

Oh well, who cares. Just chill y'all...

Them monkeys can run up and down the stairs coz they use all their limbs.

Here are the statues saying 'au revoir' at the gateway as you walk down the stairs.

I'm not sure how to define, but to some it's obviousl

The theme park called Cave Villa. Cost 15 bucks to enter, some of us didn't see the point, so we just stayed out.

The view looks nice tho.

There's even a parrot farm there.

He's huge.

I like this one the best. It's my current wallpaper.

Call me Gus

I always have a little bit of fun during introduction sessions, awkward it may feel sometimes.

As soon as I say Agustus, they would say “Agusta?”

“No, that’s normally a girl’s name” I’d say.

When they attempt to write, it’s always with a ‘u’ after the ‘a’, which spells ‘augustus’.

“No, my name is without ‘u’. It’s not that I don’t like you, I just don’t have ‘u’ there.

And when they try to pronounce my name, it always sounds like Oh’gustus.

“No, my name is a’gustus, like, ‘a gust of wind’…”

That’s why I prefer to shorten my name to Agus, as in ‘ah, goose’.

“That’s like Indonesian for the month of August!” they’d say.

“Yes!”

So you’re Indonesian? No? Filipino? No? Are you sure?!

They don’t normally buy that I’m Malaysian, unless I include Sarawak in the picture. Even then, a gentleman told me once, “Are you sure? Cos I swear you’re so Filipino”

I always take it as a compliment. I’m different.

“Agus as in Bagus!” many say to start the ball rolling.

“I get that a lot, but yeah, BAGUS! Agus without the ‘B’, Agus B minus”
(Note: Bagus means 'Good' in Malay)

Sometimes they instantly say Sugus! It’s pretty old but I always try to be polite and let out a giggle all the time.

And just last weekend, I was at a birthday party with many new faces so people were chatting and introducing themselves.

“Sorry I didn’t get your name just now…”

“Oh, it's Agus”

I guess my voice must have got distorted by the crowd because he repeated “Anus?”

Redang and me...

It's been two weeks since i left redang, a well deserved vacation with a bunch of good friends. The good feeling still lingers, as do the pictures. Enjoy...

On one of the boat rides, looking at one of the small islands in redang.

Our boat approaches Berjaya Redang Resort. Though our butts hurt from the 2 hours back breaking ride on rough seas (t'is the season y'all), our hearts were pumping because we've finally arrived at our sweet spot.

The water... oh so precious...

What more could I want? (I know, I know, some of you may go blind...you're lucky I don't own a pair of trunks)

The ocean displayed different hues as the clouds orchestrated the day.

The sand was white as snow.

And powder fine too. Isn't it time for you to drag your overworked ass to the ocean...?

A view from our suite. Sweet!

And did I say sweet?

Just me and the horizon. And still no trunks...

Looking up from our hut shades.

Evening approaches and we were still at the beach.

Plenty of time for reflection.

Doesn't this look like a shot from Survivor?

The moon was full, huge and bright during all three nights we were there.

Nice...

Yup, like this sequence of pictures, the four days three nights vacation felt like a one day event. We were left wanting for more.

Well, at least it's my birthday today. Now turn around and wish me happy birthday, bitch*...(*please ignore my rudeness, i'm just drunk. Click on the link and you'll see what I mean)

Nuff said!

The first aniversary went like a blast!

I didn't bother taking pictures that night to fully enjoy the whole scene. Besides, almost every blogger is going to report on this; stories and pictures abound.

So I just chilled and let the professionals do the work.

Luck kept smiling as I hung out with the sarong party boys early in the evening and got myself sandwiched in between, thanks to the famous photographer 'kidchan'.

And who better to dish out the official report than the good people of Nuffnang themselves.

Featured in the fourth picture sequence, in a group of three people, as the second from left, in the first aniversary of Nuffnang; 4-3-2-1, nuff said!

Click on the picture for the official story by Nuffnang.

Oh, and I ruined the shot for Dawn Yang and Xia Xue. Sorry ladies, didn't mean to enterframe, I was just waiting for the photographers to finish their shots before I walked back to my seat.

Aren't they just bursting with energy and charm? To the brim baby!

Sleep, scratch and score

Update: Yess! I got the invite. Lucky after all... but still no pajama. Boxer perhaps....

Before you think I’m going to disclose my experience with the pole dancing, skimpy dressed lady from my previous post, I’m not, okay.

However, this one still has something to do with Borneo Baruk Club, a hot party and some scenes in bed.

I read Kenny’s blog and realized that there’s a party going on at Borneo Baruk Club next Saturday, by Nuffnang.

Dang, the submission deadline for this post is just two days away and I’m not even in their bloggers list. So I quickly signed up, bought some Chipsters and planned my bed scene.

You see, to be invited, members have to post something about Chipster and include a picture of them in their pajamas with packs of Chipster.

The theme is “I sleep better with Chipster”

Naturally, walking back from the store with three bags of Chipsters made me open one and voila, it even comes with a scratch and win card. Not bad, more ways to score! But of course, all I got was ‘wealth and good luck is coming my way’. What else is new right? Tell me it’s already in my pants for a change will ya!

Anyway, time to expose my bed scenes. But be warned, I sleep in my birthday suit, not that you’ll see anything obscene lah… but yeah, I own no pajama mama!

A recent survey revealed that 93.7% of male subjects scratch their sacks while sleeping.

Out of the positive respondents,
80% said it is due to actual mild non-irritant itchiness.
12% said it is for instant relief, i.e. semi conscious pleasure
3% said it is habitual
5% has no reason at all.

Okay, I made that all up. But why do we scratch? The hair maybe?

Turn around b!

I was at the new Borneo Baruk Club in KL last Friday for their macho nite theme. Invitations were sent via sms but the crowd was rather tame. The live band played familiar songs quite okay but only a few felt the urge to dance. The rest just swayed and tapped and did their little slides.

One table caught my attention though. A couple accompanied by a slightly overweight and tall woman. She was wearing a blue shirt and a khaki, probably got there from work. She may be big but her moves were groovy.

As the music picked up tempo and the band played the familiar funky sounds, more people got up and shook their booties. That was the time when I thought ‘what the heck, let’s dance with someone’, cos the only person drinking with me was my school mate, and he was not about to mingle with strangers, let alone dance.

So I slid into the big girl’s dancing circle and faced her. She was glad to have me and instantly took my hand. It only took her five seconds to say “turn around bitch!” and take total control. She hugged me like the small man that I am, made me swirl and practically sucked my neck!

“Shit! I’m the arms of octopussy!” I told myself.

“You’re drunk…!” I told her with a big and nervous smile.

She said nothing and continued to ‘make’ me dance, like a puppet master, profusely licking my neck.

“You’re really drunk aren’t you…” I told her again.

She just smiled.

‘Ok, don’t panic. Keep dancing and when she lets go, dance the opposite direction and pretend you really need a drink at your place’ I told myself.

When I finally got to my place, I took a big sip from my mug and told my friend all about the death dance.

He gave out a huge laugh and said ‘Yeah, I saw everything! Wanted to warn you about the probability but you did it anyway.’

How was I to know? All I wanted was a decent dance…

I avoided looking directly toward her direction for a while and just danced at my place. I was lucky she didn’t come for her second helping.

Good thing there was this mature looking lady in a skimpy outfit; good figure and moved like she’s done pole dancing all her life; looking my way. At least she provided the decoy. But yeah, that’s another story. And no, she didn’t tell this bitch to turn around.

I see dead rats

Too much drinking sends a rat stiff on the pavement. What's your poison?

Outits me...

Here's a sign that leaves you wanting more; caught with pants down in Miri's Tudan area, at a bustling commercial center called eMart.
Take a closer look...

"Everything We Mark and Sell is Guaranteed American Basic Outitters"
Hmmm, what's outitters, precious? Is that a verb? Like... outdo one's tits?
Whatever it is, it's ORICINA RIVETED. Ori' China, yeah, we get it. I guess they're trying to avoid being sued by levi's.
Last but not least, it's natural autherlic, whatever that means.
Yup, some people can't even copy it right. That's 2 U jeans.

Feeling testy?

Ever seen this sign at your local Ikea store? What does it make you want to do? Lots of stuff. Like test the bulbs, even if you're not planning to buy them. Like stick your finger into one of them sockets and see how the human body, your body, conducts electricity when you switch it on. Good thing they're positioned at adult level. I hate to imagine the scene that sparks the first law suit.

This sign screams for attention, I think it should be a T-shirt print. A design that makes you wanna do things...

Anyone can wear them, printed on either front or back, whichever makes them happy. Heck, you can even have it both ways.
.
.
Only at Ikea, your world of ideas.

Death floats

This is the typical scene at the rainforest section of One Utama. Very serene.

The colorful koi brings everything to life! This afternoon was no different.

But did you know that death surrounds this place sometimes?

They must have had too much to drink while counting down the new year.

Full of color, even in death. Dead, pretty much.

Cue Mariah Carrey's Without You; altogether now... "You always smiled, but in your eyes your sorrow shows... yes it shows... "

Now a pile of fertilizers. I wonder how many dead fish do the maintenance guys scoop out of the pond each morning this place opens.

Now that's a big fish! Hands down!

Fish go to heaven.

Certified drunk

‘You look very familiar’ I told someone during an open house function at Restoran Pucuk Ubi; after a long eye contact coupled with a lingering smile. It was closing time and people were leaving.

She stepped forward and said “Yes, I’m in your Friendster’s friend list”

I gave her a clueless expression. “Really? Which one?” I asked.
I know… I’m useless.

“Well, I was your junior in high school. Four years apart. You guys were the prefects, so most of us know your batch.”

“Okay…” I said, shuffling my memory bank in despair, knowing very well I needed more clues.

“We met in Miri recently, but you were drunk then. I sent you and Sam home… I don’t think you recall anything that night.” She offered another clue, right between the eyes.

Damn! Of all the things I want people to remember me by; drunk and hopeless!

But indeed I remember that night. We had a guys night out at one of Miri’s popular night spots called Cherrie Berries. Most of us went to college together back in 96.

One of us was driving but we had too much to drink all the same. So Sam called her to send himself and I home, because he wasn’t confident the designated driver can handle more than two destinations.

We made a quick pit stop at a 24 hour eatery. While everyone ‘reloaded’, I made a few ‘unloads’ at the sink. Not proud of it but it had to be done.

Anyway, I still couldn’t recall her name so I asked her straight “What’s your name again?”

“Tracy” she replied.

“Ah, Tracy Chapman! Yeah?” I indicated the artist that sings to mind.

“Yes” she said first. Then a quick “No”, setting the record straight.

“I know, just kidding. I like her songs” I explained.

We chatted for a short while because she and her friends had to leave early. She was in KL for her master's degree in education program during school holidays. We took one for the photo album before saying good night.

Relationship

is hard work...

it gets harder when you're expected of something you're not even aware of; no instructions, no requests, no hints, no signs, nada!

It consumes you exponentially...

You're expected to have extra sensory perceptions, to always be a step ahead. You thought you're doing fine. You only realize your little insufficiencies mean bad news when you're burried in a mudslide. And you struggle to claw your way out, the fear and anxiety drains your energy with suffocating speed...

I'm only human, throw me a frickin' bone or something. Gheez...

Come dine with me

I had lunch with two high school mates last Saturday at Nando’s Bangsar. As usual, the food was good there. Cynthia didn’t have much. She probably wasn’t as hungry as the other two guys at the table (that’ll be me and my friend). She only took half the time we did to be satisfied, leaving a lot more for my friend and I to clear up; like the municipal councils we were, or maybe it’s the guy thing…

While eating, I noticed at the corner of my eye, that she was watching me. I also sensed a light smile shining through. As self conscious as that made me feel, I kept my cool and continued eating, like I hadn’t notice.

A good moment later, I put down my fork and knife and said, “Ok, I’m done”

“Oh, do carry on, eat some more…” Cynthia requested.

“No, I can’t. I’m really full. That was a lot of food” I told her. And it really was. We ordered a meal deal for four persons. There were three of us and one of us just had half of her portion. My friend and I even had to agree to split the rest of the chicken so we wouldn’t have to waste on food. Even then there were still rice, potato salad, vegetable salad and a corn on the cob left.

“Oh, you should continue eating. I enjoy watching you eat” she explained.

“Huh! What’s that supposed to mean?” I asked her.

“Hehe… you should see him a few years back. He was really big! He loved to eat then, he still does now.” My friend added some spice to the scene. He was referring to my huge size three years ago. And he was right. I loved eating then and I still do now, only smarter.

All that made me think. It was about time I got to the bottom of this. I must know once and for all the reason people make that comment. True, I don’t get it every day but every time I do, it makes me wonder, and yeah, blush. As far as I’m concerned, I have never found it amusing to watch people eat. And don’t even get me started about people who eat with highly audible ‘munch’ sounds. ‘Chomp chomp, gulp gulp, aahhhhhh!’

I mean, I would understand the reaction if I was having dinner prepared by someone (in this case, they’re usually my aunts) and my ‘eating routine’ somehow translates to my deep appreciation toward the cook’s creative labor, age old tradition and undying passion. And trust me, the appreciation really goes deep; down my esophagus, into my stomach, through my rectum and all the way down the sewer. Sorry, too deep.

However, what we had was just fast food, good food nonetheless. And speaking of fast food, friends have told me they like the way I munch my McDonald’s burger, my KFC chicken and my oil laden fries!

Does it mean that they are impressed with someone who eats a great deal but still maintains a certain degree of composure, i.e. the ability to not look like a pig even if they are actually eating a pig’s worth?

Nah, too crude for me. I’m not that. Nevertheless, I've got "Wow! You can really eat" from a female stranger during wedding receptions, to which I only have "Oh yes, these are lovely." Quite embarrasing I must say too, trying not to look awkward and resemble the glowing-red butter prawns on my plate.

Or could it be that they genuinely admire the grace and poise that some carry over the table; something which does not necessarily result from an extensive knowledge on table manners and etiquettes. It is rather a natural act of eating with care and attention, triggered by self consciousness and the same decent behavior one expects from one’s table companions.

Hehe, sounds good to me!
But obviously there are many different reasons why some of us enjoy watching others eat. It all depends on the situation and the very person watching.

I was determined to interview her during the following hours of killing time at the mall before she flies back to Kuching. I sent the other friend home after lunch because he had important errands to run.

Unfortunately, I had such a good time killing time with her that I forgot about the whole eating thing. We went browsing at Ikea before she prematurely asked me to take her for shoes and bags shopping (Ladies, sound familiar?) As a good chauffeur, and butler, I obliged. Besides, time wasn’t on our side either. Delightfully, I was rewarded with a nice t-shirt in the end. Thanks so much Cyn!

So now I’m left with the question (and a nice T shirt) that has variable answers. Gosh, I’ll have to wait for another comment to come by. That means many eat out sessions and cash spent before one is dropped on the table, which by the way, has only been conveyed by the ladies thus far.

So, do you like watching people eat? Buy me dinner?
